FERGIE’S BEACH, CENTER CITY’S MOST FUN, FRIENDLY BEER GARDEN AND ASPHALT PARADISE,
REOPENS MAY 20
Philadelphia, May 15, 2015 – Next to Fergie’s Pub at 1214 Sansom Street, owners Fergie Carey and Wajih Abed will reopen Fergie’s Beach – an inviting, 60-seat beer garden and asphalt paradise in Center City Philadelphia, which offers an extension of Fergie’s friendly service, fun and relaxed vibe, and diverse beer selection that patrons have come to know and love for over two decades.
Fergie’s Beach will offer outdoor dining, drinks, and fun this season for a limited time, from May 20 to July 15—or as long as possible before construction begins on the so-called “Fergie’s Tower” surrounding the legendary Philly pub.
“Last year was so much fun, we decide to do it again this year, while supplies last!” said Fergie, who opened Fergie’s Pub in 1994.
For more info, visit Fergie’s Beach at fergiesbeach.fergies.com and Fergie’s Pub at www.fergies.com, and follow Fergie’s on social media at www.twitter.com/FergiesPhilly, www.facebook.com/Fergies and www.instagram.com/fergiesphilly.
Fergie’s Beach will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Fridays, 4 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays, 2 p.m. to midnight; and Sundays, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Conveniently located in Center City, it’s the perfect place to kick back with a cold drink and a bite—along with throwback games like foosball and giant Jenga. The vibe is refreshingly low-key, perfect for gatherings of friends as well as an outing with the kids.
Cool off with a refreshing summer draught from a rotating list including Lagunitas Dogtown Pale Ale, Weyerbacher Wit, Sierra Nevada Summerfest, Firestone Walker Pivo Pils and Great Lakes Burning River Pale Ale—as well as spiked slushies and other thirst-quenching options.
The updated Beach Snacks menu offers both meat and vegetarian options, with picnic-style bites including Wajih’s fried chickpeas, shrimp kebabs, beef or veggie hot dogs, and seitan tacos with spicy corn salsa. Plus, enjoy classic Philly pub fare like cheesesteak spring rolls, fried pickles, chicken tenders with fries, hummus, corn on the cob, and Fergie’s signature pub fries.
Opened for the first time last summer, Fergie’s Beach will bring back their blue picnic tables topped by umbrellas, twinkling string lights, plus a new roof for extra weatherproofing. Framing the beer garden is “The Tumble,” a colorful mural by Robert Goodman, created as part of the Freewall series launched by Fergie and noted Philadelphia muralist David Guinn.
A pioneer of Philadelphia’s beer scene, Fergie opened Fergie’s Pub well before Philadelphia became a renowned beer-lovers’ town, and before the surrounding neighborhood became revitalized and renamed Midtown Village. Thanks to his wide variety of local and international beers, delicious and affordably priced pub fare, and unparalleled hospitality (Fergie is famous for remembering names), Fergie’s Pub has become a Philadelphia institution.
Fergie himself is one of the city’s most beloved personalities. He wrote the popular “Ask Fergie” column for the Philadelphia Weekly for two years, and is the only person to swim from bar to bar carrying the Hammer of Glory at the start of Philly Beer Week (you’ll have to ask him to get the whole story). In addition to Fergie’s Pub, he’s a partner in some of Philadelphia’s most enduring and highly regarded beer bars including Monk’s Café, Grace Tavern, and The Belgian Café.
