Jazz Lives Philadelphia Presents: Jazz at the Met, a historic concert taking place Saturday, November 26th at 7pm (doors at 6pm) at The Metropolitan Opera House of Philadelphia located at 858 N. Broad Street. The building was originally constructed by Oscar Hammerstein I, in 1908. The venue will open its doors for the first time in decades for a glimpse inside before it closes again for a historic restoration. A show open to all ages, Philadelphians won’t want to miss the opportunity to step inside this historic venue – the first performance in the space since it’s last performance in the 1980s and the last before the developers being an historical restoration on the building.
This exciting lineup includes artists such as GRAMMY Nominated Saxophonist Ted Nash, member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
Vocalist Candice Hoyes, who has traveled the world performing, will bring the evening full circle with her classical soul and jazz influences featuring music from her newly released album, On a Turquoise Cloud.
The Jazz Lives Philadelphia Big Band and Josh Lee & The Family, are comprised of young, local, rising stars in the jazz community, some of which attend Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. Joe Block, a pianist and composer, joins the JLP Big Band. Block, a high school senior at Germantown High School has talent that has not gone unrecognized, as he recently won the Young Composers Award, a contest hosted by the prestigious Jazz at Lincoln Center.
A limited number of 50 VIP Tickets are available for pre-sale beginning November 19th which include an exclusive, private tour of the historic Metropolitan Opera House of Philadelphia in collaboration with Hidden City, an organization who “pulls back the curtain on the city’s most remarkable places and connects them to new people, functions, and resources." Also included in the VIP experiences are early admission, artist meet and greet, seating, and light refreshments. Minimum donation for VIP tickets is $50. Guests can also choose to become a Silver Sponsor, a limited availability of 50 seats available for a minimum donation of $35. Interested supporters can also purchase a ticket for $20 to become a sponsor of the event which includes recognition on our program. Attendees at the event at the Met Opera will have the exclusive opportunity to see the historic space before its upcoming renovation. As with any such pre-construction site, there may be certain risks such as dust and exposure to other hazards. This beautiful building has working bathrooms and electricity, but no HVAC or heat so please dress accordingly. A structure engineer and the City of Philadelphia Department of Licenses & Inspections have reviewed and provided permits for the event. All attendees will be required to sign a waiver and release of liability form to enter the facility.
RSVPing for the event, either online or by getting a physical ticket does not guarantee entry to the facility, and it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis for ticketed individuals until the building reaches capacity. Others may be permitted on standby at the discretion of the Event Sponsor and building management.
