Strap on your lederhosen and dirndl, and get ready to enjoy this traditional Deutsch festival fueled by the best German beer list in the country, along with Chef Jeremy Nolen’s traditional Bavarian festival food. The schedule for the Maifest stage at 8th and South streets is as follows:
1:30 PM Liter Lift Competition
2:00 PM to 6:00 PM HeimatKlange Live on Stage
2:00 PM Ceremonial Keg Tapping
2:45 PM Maitanz (Maypole Dance)
3:45 PM Holzhacker (Chopping Wood Dance)
4:45 PM Schuhplattler (Slapping Feet Dance)
- Featured German beers, such as Hofbräu Maibock and Hacker Pschorr Hubertus Bock – two traditional Maifest beers – will be flowing all afternoon, along with other rare and imported beer offerings from Warsteiner, Paulaner, Hacker Pschorr and Hofbräu.
- Food offerings will include roast pork and sausage sandwiches, served with sauerkraut and available with Chef Nolen’s famous pork, marjoram, caraway and mace; bratwurst and his hickory-smoked bauernwurst, featuring pork and beef with garlic, pepper and mustard seed; and roast pork and sausage platters.
- Round tables (with umbrellas) for plentiful seating to enjoy entertainment, food and drink
- All food and drink for Maifest are pay-as-you-go to general public, and VIP experience packages are also available at www.brauhausschmitz.com
Additionally, Brauhaus Schmitz (in partnership with South Street Headhouse District) will also be sponsoring a contest for an all-expenses paid trip to visit Germany during Oktoberfest. Raffle tickets are $3.00 each. The winner will be announced promptly at 6:00 PM at the 8th Street stage.
There will be Masskrugstemmen, or traditional bier stein holding contest, where contestants will compete to see who can hold a liter mug filled with beer with one outstretched hand for the longest amount of time. The winner will earn a complimentary trip to New York City to test his or her skills in the United States National Masskrugstemmen Championship in September, with the national winner receiving a free trip to Germany.
