It's Storytime folks...
As part of my 40th birthday celebration, I hosted a 2-floor blowout party at The Latest Dish and Fluid Nightclub. A mix of 70s funk down and 80s new wave up. By the end of the night, it was obvious that I wasn't alone with my love for new wave music!
I talked with owner Tony and we found a Tuesday night in August and I launched Sex Dwarf. Almost immediately friends and fans joined in on the fun and we quickly proved that you COULD have a successful retro party in Philly, on a Tuesday no less!
At that first party, I was given a note from a fan of the music - wanting to know more about the party. Before you knew it, that writer was my partner in crime - DJ Marilyn Thomas - and together we carved out over FIVE HUNDRED HOURS of new wave goodness!
In 2013, as we embarked on our tenth anniversary, the bottom fell out as Fluid announced it had to close in just a few months. We had some of the best parties those final months at our home-away-from-home, with our final party that April. Thankfully, our friends at Voyeur welcomed us into their home - and we quickly were embraced by Frankie, Rick and Rich, which eased the pain of losing our clubhouse.
As we wrapped up our 10 year-celebration, Marilyn decided it was time to step out of the DJ booth and begin a new fabulous chapter in life - Sex Dwarf continued and just a few months ago I realized it was time to relocate Sex Dwarf to a new home; one that really fit our crowd and our needs. In June we began a new chapter at Club Mousai and here we are .... here to celebrate 13 years of New Wave Goodness!!
To celebrate, I am tossing the Sex Dwarf spotlight on the band that started it all for me - The B-52's! My love for them goes waaaay back to 1979 and it was their originality, retro fashion and quirky style that welcomed me in and told me everything was gonna be fine. I had found my home.
Get their for the 80s Pregame - starting 10pm - settle in with a drink special and chat up your friends - you might just win some concert tickets! (details below)
Thanks for thirteen wonderful years - I love what Sex Dwarf has become - and continues to be - our little clubhouse!

The monthly fun takes place at the new home for Sex Dwarf: Philly's Premier New Wave Dance Party - Club Mousai - located at 1227 Walnut Street (just steps away from the NE corner of 13th and Walnut).
Club Mousai (moo-sigh) is a new spot - just 5 months old - located within CiBo Ristorante Italiano. For those wondering, the Mousai were the Greek goddesses of music, song and dance. Club Mousai is also where I host my monthly CHURCH: A Classic House Party every first Saturday.
Every weekend at 10pm the restaurant transforms itself into a sweet dance space with a killer sound system, a large wood dance floor, high ceilings with no more stairs to navigate! Comfy banquettes line the far wall for folks to sit if they chose - as well as ample seating at the wrap-around bar ... ADDITIONALLY Club Mousai offers some outdoor seating on Walnut Street - where you can get some fresh air (or a smoke) during the night!
Best of all - former Sex Dwarf bar staff Rick and Rich are here - which means FRIENDLY faces behind the bar and great QUICK service all night long!
Now - here's the NEW twist: Sex Dwarf will start at 10pm with a 80s Pregame Mixer, followed by dancing 'til 2am! Allow me to explain:
When you arrive starting 10pm and pay your $5 cover, you'll be given a raffle ticket. Come in, take advantage of the drink specials ($2 Lager drafts & $5 well drinks) while the staff clears the floor and kills the lights to morph Cibo into Mousai ... I even created an 80s music mix that we'll play to help you settle in! Once the transformation is complete (usually takes 15 minutes or so - but no later than 10:30pm) I'll start the night by picking one (or two) raffle tickets randomly and awarding free tickets to upcoming 80s concerts! Yep - each and every month those arriving for the pregame 80s mixer will have a chance to win some free concert tickets!
Then we dance the night away to Nonstop New Wave Goodness!
Cover is $5 ALL NIGHT LONG - so no penalty for those 'tardy to the party'
