The Westbury (Closed Permanently)

(39 Ratings)
Philly's oldest gay bar
Casual neighborhood bar with a dim, smoky atmosphere. A very laid-back place for good inexpensive drinks, this bar tends to have an older crowd.

Used to be the only gay bar with good beer...

This used to be the only gay bar in Philly with a decent beer selection, including my favorite, Philly Brewing Company. Now it's just ten taps of Bud light, coors light, natty lite, the standard colored-water (I'm being polite) beers... It's a shame, it was a good place to hang out.

Bitch FIGHT

The twink who was working the Saturday waiter shift got into a BIG fight withe bartender. Put on his coat. Called the manager. Bitched out the bartender. It was entertaining, but SOOOO unprofessional. He deserves to be fired. I won't be going back there.

I agree with Frederick

Lately the Westbury has been a hangout for strange, sleazoid types, older men with hustler type druggies. Many of the druggies are on heroin and some are straight and are being "bought" by these daddies who seem to collect them. Real creepy. Fights have broken out in Uncles, another Philly gay bar not too far away. These fights are between daddies and their drug addict companions. Where is all this low life coming from?

Good bar but too many Daddies and Heroin Addicts

The food is great, the people personable but I have found too many South Philly sleazeballs or Sugar Daddies who "date" twentysomething drug addicts (especially heroin addicts). They are creepy. Old men in baseball caps with young skinny guys with needle marks on their arms. Life in 2008! If you can deal with this freak show, the Westbury is great. But these creepy S Philly Sugar Daddies are a sorry lot. believe me.

Great pub for younger, older, bears, twinks...

The gang that hangs out there is fun & friendly. On Sunday afternoons, there is a big group of guys who come from the Bike Stop after the Eagle's games and party like rock stars. They are friends of Emilio the bartender & they have been known to dance on the bar top in their undies!
