nice place for happy hour...next time in town, we'll do dinner
Pretentious
I don't feel at ease or like I had a good time here. I never attended a gay bar until I was 30 and Knock was my first. I've only ever gone here with my current partner and I always notice people looking from across the bar or people trying to "pick up" even though I'm with someone. It's a different experience for sure. Jeb is a GREAT bartender.
I always feel young here..
Which at 46 ain't easy. :) Friendly staff and a nice place, but definitely an older crowd (and their admirers).
success meets friends
meet great local guys who are great and tourist guys who are great
fun place to relax and enjoy the company of others.
First time there last week, had a great time, service was awesome and looking forward to going back.
Great beer selection
This is primarily a restaurant, with a small bar at the front. The food is very good. Good place to go on a date cuz it's upscale yet casual, and is right in the thick o' things, so there are plenty of options for after dinner.
Ritzy place for an older crowd
When my friends and I first walked into Knock at 11 on a Saturday night, we were the youngest people there by about 20 years...and that's not a bad thing! The crowd was refined and friendly, and the drinks, while a little pricey, were mixed well. As the evening wore on, more younger people came in, and at one point the front bar was so packed you couldn't move, but the crowd thinned out later as people left to find other nearby bars and clubs. Great upscale place!
Elegant but friendly
The food is excellent and comes in good quantity. Very tasty. The service is friendly and without attiude which is often found in the more "elegant" restaurants. I liked it probably best of the restaurants in Philly that I went to.
Seasoned Style
If you are looking for a sophisticed older crowd, nice food, drinks and atmosphere, then Knock is the place for you.
A Waste of Time
I ate lunch here on Friday, May 28, 2010.
The crowd was older men. I don't think that any guy there was under 50. However, 2 younger guys did come in a little later.
The food was okay. I orderd caesar salad with chicken. It was okay. It wasn't the greatest chicken caesar salad that I've ever had.
I asked the server and 2 of the patrons about the Philly gay scene and they were not enthusiastic about it at all. They were not helpful at all in guiding me to other gay spots that I should go to.
I will not be returning to Knock. When I return to Philly I'm going to explore other gay spot. Knock did not impress me.
These other reviews must be written by friends.
This place sucked. Yes, it is upscale, but the fun stopped there. The service was slow, the bartenders pretentious, and the regulars unfriendly. The bartender actually yelled at us for trying to order drinks at the bar because there is (supposedly) wait service! Well, our waiter ws spending his time chatting with friends at the table next to ours and didn't even ackowledge us when he saw us sit down. He finally served us and then took someone elses order between serving us and giving us change! I will say it's probably fun if you go with friends, drink martinis, know the bartenders, and don't mind waiting a long time for drinks. With all the other bars with efficient staff and friendly clients why waste your time and money?
Wonderful Place for drinks!
Glad to finally find a bar that is NOT a dump! This is a very upscale bar with friendly bartenders and a good friendly crowd. Also has a great restaurant within it. Wonderful happy hour crowd that extends thru the entire evening. Anybody visiting Philadelphia certainly needs to put this on their list of places to go first!
