Woody's

(511 Ratings)
Must stop lounge/dance bar

A multitude of rooms caters to the different moods of Woody's patrons. Get drinks and people-watch in the main bar, have a cozy conversation in the pub room, or get a latte in the Coffee bar. Make your way upstairs to the video bar, then move to the dance floor to get your groove on.

Not worth your time

Don't waste a bit of your time at this place. It was mediocre before the new owners took over, and now, it's just God awful. The redecorated upstairs now looks like it was designed for the "stereotypical gay club" by straight people with no taste. The drinks are very overpriced and much smaller now that the new owners have taken over. So you are now paying more for less. The music is terrible, the atmosphere is less than desirable, and the clientele is becoming more and more snotty and stuck up.

Packed and Interesting

Even on weeknights this place is jumping with [mostly] wall to wall men of all ages. The guys are all types; something to appeal to everyone. Friendly crowd, too. Only time I didn't feel the love was on the second floor where there's a lounge in the far back that has door men or guards posted to keep people out with various weird excuses. Don't know what's up with that but the rest of the bar -- and it's a big one with several rooms -- was plenty of fun. The most crowded of the gay spots I hit in Philly.

New Owners RUINED It

New owners have taken over Woody's and have just destroyed the place. The "re-design" of the upstairs is just horrific, all blood red with padded cells like you're in an assylum, which you will be ready to commit yourself to after you hear the music. It's all hip-hop music now, the slowest beats, just awful, I feel they've sucked the energy and spirit out of the place. Such a shame.

Some fun times there

I had a few good times there when I lived up that way. It's nice but it's another gay bar. All bars seem to be the same now days. Are we not gay and suppost to be the most creative people? If so, why are all our bars typical?

It's being sold...

but don't expect many changes. Woody's will still be the center of the Gayborhood. Karaoke on Mondays is surprisingly amusing...cute boys who can't really sing can be very entertaining. Some of us feel kinda old there pretty quickly. It's still good fun.
